Gold Star Father Helps Find Final Photos For Wall Of Faces Vietnam Memorial

(Mayville) A Dodge County man played a vital role in finding photos of Vietnam veterans for a virtual memorial. Roughly two decades ago, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund began an effort to locate a picture for each one of the 58-thousand service members whose names are engraved on the memorial wall in Washington D.C. The pictures are featured on a website called “The Wall of Faces” and includes a brief profile of the veteran.

New BDACT Director Credits Growing Up In Beaver Dam For Hollywood Success

(Beaver Dam) David Alan Smith recently retired from a successful career in Hollywood but says he never would have made it without his time at the Beaver Dam Area Community Theatre.
“I think the professionals I worked with were appreciative of the fact that I knew how to learn my lines and hit my mark and face the camera and be consistent in the things that I was doing and that all came from my training so thank you BDACT,” he says.

PBS Sewing Icon Nancy Zieman Remembered For Entrepreneurship, Community Spirit

(Beaver Dam) Nancy Notion’s founder Nancy Zieman is being remembered as an inspirational entrepreneur and supporter of arts in the community. Zieman died Tuesday at her home in Beaver Dam surrounded by family after a long battle with bone cancer. The 64-year-old was the host of North America’s longest running sewing show “Sewing With Nancy” on Wisconsin Public Television, which has been airing since 1982. In 1979, Zieman founded Nancy’s Notions, a mail order business based in Beaver Dam that became a major outlet for sewing and quilting enthusiasts.

Shaved By The Bell - St. Baldrick's Day At BDHS

(Beaver Dam) Radio personality Craig Warmbold joined 42 Beaver Dam High School students and staff members in shaving their heads as part of the St. Baldrick’s Day fundraiser for children’s cancer research. The high school students had set its fundraising goal at $5000, but the final tally was closer to four times that amount. Senior Autumn Slosser raised the most money at $1970. Teacher and organizer Carry Ketchem had tears in her eyes when she thanked all those who gave selfishly of themselves.

Community Theatre Youth Troupe To Perform 'Willy Wonka'

(Beaver Dam) Area youth bring Willie Wonka Jr. to the stage of the Beaver Dam Area Community Theater today as part of their annual Tell-A-Tale production. Two of the community theaters summer productions, Willie Wonka and Peter Pan – which starts later this month -- both have the youngest directors in the history of the organization at the helm. Wonka Director Chris Hughes says he’s been in plays since he was a kid and it’s an honor to be able to give something back to the performing arts community. “Willie Wonka Jr.” has six performances beginning today and running through Sunday at the theater building on North Spring Street.
